New York’s Leading Screening Series Now Celebrating Its Thirteenth Year
On Wednesday, April 25, NewFilmmakers presents the NewFilmmakers Middle East Group.
Our 6:00 PM Documentary Series presents Randy Bell and Eric V. Hachikian VOYAGE TO AMASIA (2011, 85 minutes). Voyage To Amasia is a feature documentary inspired by Eric Hachikian’s piano trio of the same name. Amasya, Turkey is the city from which Eric’s grandmother fled during the Armenian Genocide. The filmmakers made a real voyage to Amasia, tracing a path through the past, telling Eric’s family’s story and the story of the current people of Turkey and Armenia.
Our 7:30 PM Short Program presents four new films. David Allensworth HOPE’S PORTAL (8 minutes) It showcases three separate characters at different locations in NYC… at the same time. Hameed Sheikh HOLY SINNERS (26 minutes) is about last seven years of Taliban. Mauro Mueller GE HENNAH (2010, 12 minutes) a drama set in a small rural town in Lebanon about Yvette who is past 30, unmarried, devoutly religious and still living with her parents. Today, she is preparing to go to a retreat. It’s a dream come true for her. However, as the bus approaches, a fight breaks out between her parents. She tries to intercede, but her father’s rage is overwhelming. Is she able to calm her father and go to the trip? How far would you go to protect your mother? And Califa Yapimcilik Sunar DIREK ASK (11 minutes) is a short film about women and love….
Our 8:45 PM First Feature Presentation is Moniere XENATION: ABUNDANCE (2012, 71 minutes), a feature length documentary on food & GMO foods, minerals & toxic crystal formation in the body, along with a handful of funny & entertaining scenes…. Doctors Nick Good, Robert Cassar, Mony Vital & David Wolf, Naja Hill, Lou Corona & Marcus Patrick along with other experts from five continents across the globe share their knowledge & wisdom.
Our 10:00 PM Second Feature Presentation Babar Ahmed Sid’s PARALYSIS (2011, 69 Minutes). A man is visited by his ex-girlfriend. During the night strange occurrences lead them to believe that something supernatural could be involved.
NewFilmmakers screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. NewFilmmakers LA screens in the Stanley Kramer Theater at the Sunset Gower Studio and has become a leading showcase for new films in Hollywood.
